Childrensalon, the online retailer of designer children’s fashion, has been crowned Employer of the Year 2017 at the Kent Excellence in Business Awards (KEiBA).

Designed to recognise excellence in Kent-based businesses, the KEiBA 2017 award winners were revealed at a ceremony held at the Kent Event Centre in Detling on Thursday 22 June.

Childrensalon won the prestigious Employer of the Year award for best demonstrating commercial success and strategies for growth whilst also achieving excellence in its commitment to the support and development of its workforce.

In its statement setting out why Childrensalon was selected as the winner, KEiBA judges said, “Childrensalon has used average annual growth of 50 per cent to invest in its staff and create a motivated workforce, often promoting from within the ranks – about a third of mid-level and senior management came from lower level positions. It also pays well above the living wage as a Living Wage Foundation employer.

“Part of the success and competitiveness of Childrensalon is the value it places on diversity and fostering cultural awareness. A weekly internal newsletter shares company news and every employee is invited to a weekly sales meeting. The firm also arranges monthly socials and barbecues.”

“Having people who ‘get’ our culture is so important to us and promoting from within ensures this,” adds Childrensalon’s people team director, Denise Hamilton. “We are passionate that our work environment reflects one of our most important core values of ‘People Before Profit’ and we are honoured to be recognized for it.”

In addition to winning a KEiBA award, 2017 has also seen Childrensalon being included in the 1000 Companies to Inspire Britain table, hosted by the London Stock Exchange, and its inclusion in the Sunday Times HSBC International Fast Track 200, where it ranked 85th.
