Kidunk Clothing is celebrating this week after winning Gold in the European Product Design Awards for its range of kid-proof play clothing.
The awards celebrate international innovation and ground-breaking products by designers who strive to improve daily lives with practical and well thought out design. Previous winners include; Philips, Baby Tula, Doona, Meri Meri and Flying Tiger Copenhagen.
After two years of successful trading, Kidunk receives Gold in the Children’s Products category of the European Product Design Awards.
Commenting is Kidunk Clothing’s founder, Lisa Joyce. “The last two years have been amazing for Kidunk. Since launching the products we have had fantastic feedback from parents and kids as well as winning a number of parenting awards.
“The brand is in Norway and Japan and launches into Australian early 2020. This recent accolade is a real honour and will give us the international exposure we need to pursue our ambitious plans for the brand.”
Award-winning children’s designer and former Gro Company design director, Lisa Joyce, is the creator of Kidunk.
Joyce spotted a gap in the market for practical play clothes that allow children the freedom to play without the worry of spoiling their everyday clothes.
Working in partnership with childcare experts Tina and Phill Knight, who own their own nursery and have over 30 years’ experience of working with pre-schoolers, they combined practical ideas with fashionable styling to create the range.
Joyce continues: “Initially my brief was to create practical play clothes that were suitable for a nursery setting. I quickly realised that challenges childcare professionals face are the same I faced as a mum of a toddler; how to change them quickly and easily, especially when toilet training. I was in that moment toilet training my toddler when I got the brief.
“As a family, we spend huge amounts of time outdoors. Clothing the children is a really important factor in how they enjoy the experience. Like all parents, I don’t want them to get too hot and sweaty, feel restricted or get cold and wet. Plus, in summer, I want them protected from the sun but in lightweight garments.
“So, I designed two options. Working with Kate Baker, a leading design technologist in baby and children’s products, we developed a fabric and garment that is 100% breathable, water resistant and flexible. We even got a patent granted on the functionality of our design.”
Kidunk unisex playsuits cater for children and messy play. Suitable for all types of indoor and outdoor activities, they are lightweight, waterproof, comfortable as well as easy clean.
Innovative designs include both tops and bottoms to wear separately or zip together to make a complete suit. Furthermore, all garments have Teflon coating to make them stain resistant. Sizes are 2-3 years, 3-4 years, 4-5 years and 5-6 years.
