School Uniform Shop’s Books for Cambodia project nears target

Hereford based schoolwear retailer, The School Uniform Shop, is running a Books for Cambodia project. The project’s aim is to provide resources for the libraries of three Cambodian schools the retailer supports.

Thanks to its customers’ support, the retailer’s project is on course to reach the target of 1,000 books by March.

The School Uniform Shop has been supporting and donating to schools around the world for over a decade.

Commenting on the Books for Cambodia project is Luke Conod, managing director of The School Uniform Shop. “We have been offering our customers the chance to buy a book for Cambodia for a little under 6 months. We have had the most fantastic response and are already near our total of 1,000 books.

“It is truly humbling to visit these schools and see the pride and care the children have in both their library and its books. This project has been so well received by our customers that we are going to extend it for another year. The new target will be to get 2,000 books.”

Over recent years, The School Uniform Shop has been supporting schools in rural Cambodia.

In 2017, along with The City of Hereford Rotary Club, it visited the Koh Ker Primary School to discover the Charity Organisation, The Ponheary Ly Foundation.

In its time working with The Ponheary Ly Foundation, the retailer has helped with three schools in rural Cambodia; Koh Ker School, Romchek School and Khnar Village School.

At Koh Ker Primary School it helped fund and develop three inspiring programmes. These include the Wellness Program, English Language Instruction and a library.

In Romchek, it donated school uniform and funds to help with the costs of educational tools and supplies.

Most recently, in Khnar Village, it helped donate over £10,000 for the school. This is now being used to build an additional structure to house more classrooms, workshops and a library.

The School Uniform Shop continues to support all three schools and now aims to fund resources for their libraries.

The retailer’s aim is to donate 1,000 library books to cater to various ages and learning abilities. Customers can donate £1 to the project when shopping in-store or online. This will provide one library book for children in Koh Ker, Romchek and Khnar Village.
