Shoe Hub store at Stevensons

Independent school uniform provider Stevensons is launching a new school shoe section branded Shoe Hub within five of its branches; Epsom, Harpenden, Edinburgh (Morningside), Perth and St. Albans. The new Shoe Hub areas offer a range of school shoes from well-known suppliers including Clarks, Start-rite, Kickers and Pod.

As well as in-store sections in four existing branches, Stevensons has also been testing a stand-alone Shoe Hub pop-up shop in Harpenden. This will help demonstrate whether these smaller types of units offer an additional opportunity to expand their retail footprint, either at key times of the year like Back to School, or on a more permanent basis.

Following a successful trial, Shoe Hub is now set to roll-out to more stores.

Commenting is Natalie Poulakas, Stevensons’ head of retail. “We want to be seen as a one-stop-shop for schoolwear for busy, time-strapped parents. Introducing key school footwear ranges in a number of trial stores is definitely a step in the right direction.”

Also commenting on Shoe Hub is John Stevenson, joint managing director at Stevensons. “It was important for us to create the right environment in our stores to launch Shoe Hub. Also, to ensure proper training for our staff so that we can deliver a premium experience for parents.”

Stevensons trained staff can now offer free, expert advice on what size and width of shoe are best for a child.

With less physical shoe shops on the high street, it is becoming increasingly difficult for parents to get expert fitting for their children’s school shoes. Buying online may be more convenient; however, what parents miss out on is the care and attention given by specialist trained staff.

It’s particularly important, for instance, to regularly check the size and width of children’s shoes as their feet develop and grow. Proper fitting can prevent bumped toes and squashed feet; as can measurement of elements like heal grip as well as gaps at the top of the shoe and around the ankle. Also, ensuring the widest part of the foot is in the widest part of the shoe.
