CWB’s pick of 5 children’s brands to watch.
Pip & Henry
Pip & Henry is a new sustainable children’s footwear brand offering responsibly made, durable and stylish shoes. Available in four designs and a variety of colours, the range features 80% environmentally friendly materials. The upper and lining use organic cotton. The panels, meanwhile, are a natural textile featuring waste pineapple leaf fibre, which provides the look and feel of leather. The sole uses recycled Thermoplastic Rubber (TPR), which is lightweight, strong and slip-resistant. Pip & Henry produces in small batches and the packaging is 100% recyclable material. The shoeboxes also double up as a children’s game.
Twirly Skirts
Showcased at INDX Kidswear in January, Twirly Skirts was created by Lucy Bayliss with the help of her two daughters, Darcey and Isabella. Inspired by Darcey’s boundless mission to find the “twirliest” dress ever, Bayliss designed a collection for 3-10 years that is bright, fun, girly and comfortable. Most importantly, however, the dresses and skirts “twirl big”. To achieve the twirl, the brand uses lots of fabric in the skirt section; something that is often value-engineered out of the garment during the pricing/production stage. The launch product is the Twirly Dress Set in organic cotton. Available in a choice of two prints, the set comprises a dress together with a matching hair bow and shorts.
Kohoto
Kohoto, meaning ‘cohort,’ is a brand creating a generation of clothing that every child can wear and parents will love. As well as being responsibly sourced, Kohoto wants to help parents create the foundation of their child’s wardrobe with everyday essentials suitable for all-year-round wear. The brand offers an oversized, relaxed fit for children to enable more wear out of the clothing and to allow it to grow with the child. Collections are for ages 3-10 years. They consist of two relaxed fit hoodies and joggers in a choice of off-white and cloud grey. Kohoto is currently looking for independent stockists and welcomes wholesale enquiries.
Shëlk Wear
Established in January 2021, childrenswear brand Shëlk Wear has a “designed to last longer” concept inspired by childhood, aiming to achieve physical as well as emotional durability of a garment through a minimal palette and its signature expandable design. Shëlk Wear cares about the final make as much as it cares about the process of creating it; a collaborative of artisans is devotedly creating a space where ethics meet aesthetics with little ones in mind. The latest collection for 0-5 years is a representation of childish curiosity and eagerness.
