A weaving loom in a factory

National Weaving is based in Pembrokeshire, West Wales and is a leading manufacturer of woven and printed name tapes and labels. Here are some lesser-known facts about the company.

 

1. National Weaving was established in 1987 by Christine Astley, single-handed, in converted stables in her back garden.

2. All of National Weaving’s yarn is either recycled or repurposed. It strives to be as sustainable as possible.

3. Its factory was previously an old brewery and there are rumours that it may be haunted.

4. The roof of the factory is covered by solar panels. This means the company has the capability to run off-grid (Welsh weather-depending).

5. Since the 80s, National Weaving has had the pleasure of having three generations of the founder’s family as part of its team.

6. With the very first loom, it had a handy alarm set up for Christine’s bedroom. It would let her know when the loom ground to a halt, so she could keep weaving and ensure that every customer’s order was fulfilled.

7. National Weaving has supplied school labels to three generations of the Royal Family, politicians and British icons. (10 Downing Street and the Beckhams shh..)

8. The company is proud to be a certified Living Wage Employer.

9. Caroline Astley has been the director of National Weaving since 2018 and continues to run the company alongside her husband Jake and her three children, ensuring the family legacy continues.
