The Schoolwear Association Logo - School Uniform

Governors in Birmingham have approached The Schoolwear Association (SA) for information about the SA Code of Practice and who its members are in the Midlands.

This is so they can directly inform governors in all their state schools about the SA. Plus, potentially search out SA members, especially when reviewing uniform provision.

There is also a number of other regional Governor Support Services now engaging with the SA for information and support.

This development follows the SA’s attendance at the National Governance Association (NGA) Conference in November. It is expected that these requests will continue to spread throughout the country.

The Dept for Education (DfE) has now started the process of putting forward statutory uniform guidelines.

The SA has a meeting with the DfE at the end of January. This will mark the start of an intensive period of consultation.

The clear message is that all schoolwear retailers should be members of the SA. This will ensure that they are in the best possible position when reviews or tenders start to happen.

“Any schoolwear retailer who is serious about their business should look to become a Schoolwear Association member if they’re not already,” comments SA chair, David Burgess.

“The time is coming, very soon, when it could make a key difference in the minds of governors and heads when making decisions about uniform.”
