In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, personalised children’s brand My 1st Years has established ‘My BIG Community,’ a movement aimed at its followers, customers and beyond.

The My BIG Community movement includes My 1st Years teaming up with foodbank charity the Trussell Trust. The partnership is in response to the urgent need to ensure the most vulnerable families in society receive meals during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Many low-income families rely on food banks. However, the food banks are now struggling to keep their doors open since the outbreak. Panic buying and food shortages in supermarkets have resulted in a 25% decrease in donations. Many are also facing staff shortages as most volunteers are in the vulnerable 65+ age bracket, who are now self-isolating.

With schools now closed, many children who relied on schools for their one nutritious meal a day will now have to go without.

My 1st Years’ co-founder and new dad, Daniel Price, is doing something to help. “At My 1st Years we have always been here for our customers, for their good times and celebrations,” he says. “But now is our chance to be here for more difficult moments too.

“Our hearts go out to every family affected by the pandemic and as such, we have launched a JustGiving page where we hope to raise £10,000 for the Trussell Trust. We invite our community to join us in this movement for compassion. Anyone interested in donating can pledge as little as £2.

“In addition to helping raise money, many of our staff members will be donating their time by volunteering at local food banks and we have also pledged to donate 20,000 meals during this crisis.”

The Trussell Trust provides support to families by working with a network of food banks throughout the UK. It provides emergency food and support to people locked in poverty and also campaigns for change to end the need for food banks in the UK.

There are lots of ways to help support the Trussell Trust. For instance, volunteering at a local food bank if it is safe for you to do so; donating any spare non-perishable food you might have at home to the Trussell Trust; or simply donating any money you can spare directly to the cause.
