The Conscious Fashion and Lifestyle Network is launching for industry stakeholders, governments and NGOs to share sustainable solutions and report progress, thereby accelerating the sector’s contribution to delivering the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The year 2020 marked the beginning of the Decade of Action to deliver the SDGs by 2030. Adopted by the United Nations Member States in 2015, the Goals serve as a blueprint for a shared global vision addressing the world’s greatest challenges; from eliminating poverty, hunger and inequalities to reversing climate change and unsustainable consumption and production practices.
Network partners are offered insights from think tanks and access to speaking opportunities as well as invitations to future events. Current partnerships include Fashion4Development; Lenzing; Mara Hoffman Renewed; Messe Frankfurt Texpertise Network; Queen of Raw; Red Carpet Green Dress; Redress and Swarovski Waterschool.
The virtual network is an evolution of the Conscious Fashion Campaign; an initiative mobilizing industry stakeholders in support of the Goals. The Campaign, led by social entrepreneur Kerry Bannigan, partnered with a coalition of leading voices in the fashion industry. Collectively, these actors host over 800 annual events in 40 countries, welcoming 12.2 million industry attendees and 136,000 fashion, textile and lifestyle businesses.
The collaborative community of practice aims to drive innovation, connect industry leaders, facilitate new partnerships and also enact sustainable change.
Commenting is Kerry Bannigan. “To accelerate industry change through advocacy and education, the Conscious Fashion and Lifestyle Network offers an action-oriented platform that fuels stakeholders’ innovative solutions for more equitable and resilient societies.”
The Conscious Fashion and Lifestyle Network is managed by the Division for Sustainable Development Goals; the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), and the United Nations Office for Partnerships.
Also commenting is Annemarie Hou, acting executive director, UN Office for Partnerships. “The Conscious Fashion and Lifestyle Network offers an opportunity to cultivate an innovative and essential community of practice to help deliver sustainable change in the Decade of Action.”
