Childrenswear brand Pigeon is partnering with climate and sustainable development expert ClimateCare. Since its formation in 2004, Pigeon has sought to reduce its carbon footprint; for example, by working exclusively with organic cotton and donating spare stock to charity. Also, by switching to compostable packaging and using only electricity from renewable sources in its warehouse and office.

However, the brand will now be working with ClimateCare to offset emissions associated with international freight. It will do this through projects including two world-leading clean cooking projects in Bangladesh and Ghana.

These projects not only cut carbon emissions – helping to tackle climate change – they also improve lives by reducing exposure to toxic fumes and halving fuel bills for families. Additionally, by cutting fuel requirements the projects reduce deforestation, protecting precious habitat.

Commenting is Jane Shepherd, founder of Pigeon.

“We are delighted to work with ClimateCare. They have over 20 years’ experience running some of the world’s largest and most innovative voluntary carbon offset programmes. Working with them has allowed us to take greater responsibility for our carbon footprint, while also improving people’s lives.”

ClimateCare’s head of client services, Aude Duquesne, says; “We work with forward-thinking organisations to turn their climate responsibilities into positive outcomes. Our trademark Climate+Care approach helps organisations take a smart approach to addressing their environmental impacts by offsetting their carbon emissions through projects that also support sustainable development.”

SS22 Collection

For s/s 22, Pigeon has worked with independent designers to create 19 newly commissioned prints in a vibrant palette of turquoise, orange, green, yellow, pink and berry. Themes of peace and friendship have a special place in the collection.

Highlights include Pigeon’s popular muslin and seersucker styles; baggy pants, jumpsuits and shifts. Also, some unique new pieces, including soft twill worker overalls in four colourways. Complementing the prints are yarn-dyed Breton and fine stripes and a new ticking stripe in soft cambric.

All of the fabrics in the collection use pure organic cotton. This ensures purchases contribute towards improving the lifestyles of the farmers and their families, as well as protecting the environment. The entire collection is also certified by GOTs (Global Organic Textile Standard); meaning the supply chain is independently audited throughout to ensure strict social and environmental standards are met.

“We love designing and creating beautiful clothes,” continues Shepherd. “But we’re also excited by what we might call ‘social and environmental value added’ – the things that we can do over and above the designing and selling of lovely clothes. We continue to donate stock to several charities. And, as part of our friendship theme for s/s 22, later this year we will also be supporting an international charity working with vulnerable children.”
