My Little Green Wardrobe is a new website selling children’s clothes and apparel sourced from sustainable and ethical brands only. Each independent children’s brand has been hand-picked and vetted to ensure it follows the highest ethical standards and social criteria. Not only are they kind to the planet, but also to the people who make the garments.

Shop your values

What’s more, customers can shop according to the values most important to them. To enable this, My Little Green Wardrobe has devised a system of ethical factors and assigned them to the corresponding brands and articles of clothing.

For example, clothing that uses organic cotton or recycled plastic has a planet symbol. Items that are produced under improved conditions for farm labourers and garment workers receive the people symbol. Those that comply with vegan standards, meanwhile, show this symbol, and so on. There are seven values in total: people, planet, animals, vegan, local, diversity & inclusivity, and gives back. This means there is full transparency over how each brand behaves, and customers have complete control over the companies they want to invest in.

The goal of My Little Green Wardrobe is to be the home of sustainable childrenswear, where customers can dress their child from top to toe in ethical clothes. Lucy Todd, a 38-year-old mother of two from Maidenhead, Berkshire, is the founder of this new, ethical childrenswear company. It is the result of months of hard work and dedication to get the site up and running alongside her normal job.

Commenting on the business’s launch, she says; “When trying to shop more sustainably for my own two girls, I found there were lots of fantastic little brands out there, but no great hub website dedicated solely to sustainable clothing that brought them all under one roof. I had to look into the eco-credentials of each brand before purchasing anything, which was time-consuming and exhausting. The idea for My Little Green Wardrobe is that we do the homework for you, making it easier for time-strapped parents to make good choices.”

The majority of clothes sold by My Little Green Wardrobe use GOTS-certified organic cotton.

This is recognised as the world’s leading processing standard for fabrics made from organic fibres. E.g., cotton or wool. It sets high-level environmental criteria along the entire supply chain and requires compliance with social criteria as well.

Organic cotton grows without the use of toxic chemical fertilisers and synthetic pesticides. These are damaging for the environment and local wildlife, as well as farmworkers. It also requires less water and energy to grow. Plus, no synthetic dyes feature during the processing of organic cotton. Not only is this better for the environment but ultimately it is kinder to children’s skin. Research also suggests that organic cotton is softer and more durable than conventional cotton, meaning the garments will last longer.

My Little Green Wardrobe is launching with six sustainable children’s brands, with sizes ranging from 0-5 years. More brands and a wider age range are set to follow. Click here for further information and to visit the My Little Green Wardrobe website.
