Italian label Aspesi has signed a kidswear license agreement with Italian children’s clothing brand Il Gufo. The collection will debut for the a/w 2022/23 season. Commenting on the partnership are Simona Clemenza, CEO of Aspesi, and Alessandra Chiavelli, CEO of Il Gufo. “This license is indicative of our desire to join forces in a bid to kick start the economy in the aftermath of the pandemic. An all-Italian team that will leverage on the quality of raw materials and our in-depth expertise.”
The debut collection Il Gufo will create for Aspesi will consist of over 130 childrenswear versions of the brand’s most iconic items for children aged 4-14 years. Pride of place will go to padded jackets and shirts; classic Aspesi mainstays. There is also a focus on materials thanks to the use of the Lombard label’s historic fabrics, one of the concrete sustainability actions that have been taken.
Not just stylistic continuity with the adult collection, therefore, but also continuity in terms of the raw materials with an eye on upcycling. Nylon dominates the outerwear, 70% of which is made with ecological padding with high percentages of recycled components. Chambray is also widely used for shirts. A naturally versatile material, it is adaptable to both boys’ and girls’ wardrobes.
The collection aims to convey the idea of tradition and innovation but also the quest for perfect simplicity; combining the DNA of Aspesi with the stylistic research of Il Gufo.
“This project is indicative of our desire to join forces in a bid to kick start the economy in the aftermath of the pandemic,” says Aspesi’s CEO. “This is the first time we have entrusted a partner with a manufacturing and distribution license. It all stemmed from our meeting with a great company that shares our values, beginning with inclusion, respect for employees and sustainability.”
“We are excited to embark on a partnership with Aspesi, with whom we share values, a love for the product, continuous research and above all, the great Italian tradition for style,” says Alessandra Chiavelli, CEO of Il Gufo. The licensing agreement will allow us to pass on our knowledge and expertise in the field of children’s clothing, making a consistent contribution to the extension of the Aspesi adult line, which has long been a genuine stylistic benchmark for Il Gufo.”
