A recent survey by school uniform labelling company Stamptastic has revealed that on average, 75% of primary school children lose 1-2 items of uniform per year. Furthermore, 21.5% of those lose 3-5 items.
Based on there being 5 million children currently in primary education in the UK, this equates to 13 million lost items each school year. Both the cost of replacing these together with the waste implications on the environment are far from ideal.
The survey uncovered that 17% of parents asked have spent between £26-£50 replacing lost items; 4% have spent £51-£100; and 5% of those questioned spent over £100. Across the 5 million children in primary education, parents could be spending anything from £42-£65 million between them to replace all the lost items.
The most frequently lost garments are cardigans, jumpers and fleeces. These items account for 64% of lost school uniform; the equivalent of 2.4 million missing per year.
Labelling solutions brand Stamptastic offers name stamps to save parents time, money and lost property searches. As well as schoolwear, the stamps can be used on accessories and footwear. For example, backpacks, fabric lunch boxes and most wellington boots.
Stamptastic’s (personalised) name stamp and fabric ink pad are quick and easy to use. In fact, 99% of customers surveyed said they labelled an entire set of uniform in under 15 mins. Furthermore, Stamptastic’s ‘magic ink’ withholds a minimum of 50 washes on care labels without fading.
Commenting on the survey results is Fran Gubbay, co-founder of Stamptastic.
