Willsow, creator of the first-ever plantable children’s books, is celebrating a trio of award wins at the recent Gift of the Year awards from the Giftware Association. Along with the Children’s Educational and Ethical & Sustainable Gift of the Year awards, Willsow also received the overall Judge’s Choice award.

Willsow’s mission is to engage with children and teach them about sustainability; all whilst making reading and gardening fun. Each story has a meaningful message, including the importance of teamwork and diversity.

Once children have read their book, they can bring the main character to life. They do this by planting the book’s non-GMO seed-embedded cover pages. After a short time and careful nurturing, children’s efforts will be rewarded with healthy vegetables and herbs.

Willsow’s eco-friendly credentials

All of the books are printed on post-consumer waste recycled paper without the use of bleach or chemicals. All off-cuts are recycled too. For instance, seed paper is donated to local charities for children to plant. The inner page off-cuts, meanwhile, are recycled to become a part of another story. Willsow also uses vegetable-based inks and 100% renewable energy powers its printing machines.

Commenting is company founder, Tom Willday. “We’re so proud of everything the team has achieved, and are motivated more than ever to continue our mission to educate our future generations on all things sustainable. We have so many new and exciting products that will be added to the Willsow range in the coming weeks and months, so watch this space.”
