Two young children stood on a beach wearing wellies and coats by Muddy Puddles

British brand Muddy Puddles recently won Gold for the Best Children’s Activewear Collection in the Junior Design Awards for its a/w 23 collection titled The Antarctic Collection.

Marking the 250th anniversary of the first British Explorers, the collection encompasses the following prints: Antarctic Birds, Explorer Hats, Tents, Shooting Stars & Ice Crystals and the brand’s signature Lightning Bolt. Colours, meanwhile, are taken from the Pantone trend predictions for 2023. They include a mid-pink called Mauvewood, a dark burgundy, and also an orange called Puffins Bill.

Established almost 30 years ago, Muddy Puddles specialises in clothing and footwear that protects children from the elements. The offer includes waterproof outerwear, UV protective swim/beachwear, baselayers, wellies, snowboots, hats, gloves and socks.

Muddy Puddles’ mission is to “connect growing explorers with nature by designing excellent quality, sustainable clothing that protects them in all weathers, is kind to our planet and the people who make them.”

As well as 93% of the brand’s collection being made from GRS-certified recycled fabric, nearly all of its outerwear garments are finished with a BIONIC-FINISH®ECO fluoride-free waterproof coating. All products meet the Oeko-Tex Standard 100, too.

Muddy Puddles constantly tests and re-designs its products to make sure they work for active children. Key features include yank-proof, heavy-duty zips and roomy sizing. Legs are also secured with stirrups to prevent water from getting in and hoods are full for proper protection. All of the outerwear is also 10,000mm with fully taped seams.

Muddy Puddles is certified as a B Corporation®, which requires it to meet rigorous social and environmental standards. The brand works with a small handful of suppliers with a proven record of ethics and environmental production practices that are regularly checked through SMETA and Amfori/BSCI reports. Its relationships with these suppliers are longstanding and maintained with regular trips to their offices and factories.
