The Maped team in a sports hall celebrating the Maped Helix Great British Sports Day

School and stationery supplies brand, Maped, is continuing to work towards a better future for children, with the entire Maped global team working together this year to build on the company’s sustainability mission.

Maped set a companywide challenge for each subsidiary to run an activity as part of its global sustainability efforts with one aim – to earn as many ‘km/hours’ that would equate to a certain number of trees to be planted on the brand’s behalf. After much deliberation, a traditional sports day was decided upon for the UK.

The inaugural sports day saw the UK team take part in all the classics, including an egg and spoon race and rounders. As well as having lots of fun and nurturing team morale, they won 1,100km. This not only resulted in 22 trees being planted but also saw Maped Helix UK become the proud owner of its own grove in the highlands of Scotland.

Every tree planted in the grove will be carefully placed in protected sites in the Scottish Highlands, where they will create homes for wildlife and forests for the future. With the UK being just a small part of Maped’s global mission, the team worldwide cumulated 33,000km in just one day, meaning 665 trees can be planted globally.

Speaking about the Maped Helix Great British Sports Day and wider global initiative is company MD, Gray Richmond.

“We thoroughly enjoyed coming together, not only as a team here in the UK, but to be part of Maped’s global network to make a difference. Building on our continued mission to being a more sustainable company, we were proud to have officially planted the first 22 trees in our brand-new grove in the Scottish Highlands.

“Long may it continue; we are only just getting started,” continues Richmond. “Over the next few years, we hope to keep adding to our grove, while also inspiring the wider team to take pride in doing something fantastic for the environment and the future.”

Having been on the mission since 2022 to create more sustainable, long-lasting and safe products, the Maped Helix team is giving every child the power to change the world with their own hands. Now playing its part for the planet, the Scottish grove is another step in doing just that.
