The Kidy Learn Concentration range of school accessories with sensory stimulation

Many parents and teachers are increasingly worried about children’s concentration issues, viewing poor focus as a significant barrier to learning and education. Recognising the importance of this challenge, Maped is addressing it directly, drawing on its extensive research with children, parents and educators.

Launching in September, Kidy Learn Concentration is a new range of school accessories with sensory stimulation to help children concentrate. It includes a pencil sharpener with spinning sensory zones, a textured ruler and eraser, a bite-friendly pencil topper, and other durable and high-performing learning tools. All products in the range have been developed alongside experts in the field, including child psychiatrists.

Commenting on the range is child psychiatrist Doctor Michael Guetta

“Between the ages of 6 and 10, a child’s concentration span is around 30 minutes at best. And yet at school, children are expected to remain attentive for an average of 45 minutes. Inevitably, they become restless, and the class becomes noisy. To maintain concentration, a child needs to completely tune out what is going on around them, except for the subject matter on which they want to remain focused. That’s why it is thought that avoiding distractions helps with maintaining concentration.

“But, paradoxically, fiddling with everyday objects, such as tinkering with an eraser or doodling on a piece of paper, helps maintain focus and thus concentration on what the teacher is saying. ‘Fidgeting’ is a very good solution for helping a child to concentrate. The Kidy Learn Concentration range is designed to achieve the right balance, enabling children’s attention to be partially captured but without being too complex, so that they can remain focused on learning.”
