Dandelion graphic from the Etta Loves animation

Baby sensory brand Etta Loves has produced a scientific sensory and supportive infant animation available to view on YouTube. It has been developed with the knowledge of the Etta Loves team, its in-house orthoptist, and scientific research partners at The Sussex Baby Lab.

The aim of the animation is to allow parents ‘12 minutes of peace’; safe in the knowledge that babies are watching a supportive visual experience.

Every element of the animation links to Etta Loves’ knowledge of baby vision and their preference for shapes and movement

For instance, research shows babies prefer natural movements to mechanical ones. As nature is both beneficial and naturally calming to humans, this is a key element.

The speed of movement is backed by scientific research too. The colour palette, meanwhile, uses the most visible colours that babies can see throughout their first year. Finally, the audio will not only calm baby but parents too.

The animation was tested at The Baby Lab on 5 to 8-month-olds to track eye movement

Commenting is Professor Anna Franklin, who oversaw the experiment. “When we recorded the eye movements of babies looking at the animation, we could see that Etta Loves has got it just right for babies’ visual ability.”

The video is purposefully 12 minutes long to discourage long periods of screen time. To view the animation, please click here. Alternatively, for further information on Etta Loves, please click here.
