This month BE Schoolwear, the schoolwear specific division of family business Border Embroideries, opened its seventh store, BE Schoolwear Borders.
Located at the company’s headquarters in Greenlaw, Berwickshire, BE Schoolwear Borders will service the local market as well as offering a new online Click & Collect service for local web customers.
Filling a gap in the local market
Prior to the store’s opening there was no specific schoolwear shop within the Scottish Borders. Furthermore, there was nowhere locally selling uniform for associations such as Cubs, Scouts, Brownies or dancewear; all of which BE Schoolwear stocks and successfully sells in its other stores.
Commenting on the development is marketing manager, Jess Dixon. “One of the biggest reasons for our new store’s location is because it has been constructed within our current unit; the cost of opening was minimal.
“We also currently hold all of the stock to service our growing online store in our warehouse here in Greenlaw. So, it made sense to offer these products to the local market with a physical store.
“We feel, despite the huge move towards online retail, a lot of customers still like to come in and see the products and try them on before buying.
“We supply most primary and high schools in the local area; to now offer them a retail outlet to shop for their plain school items and accessories is a great move for the business.”
BE Schoolwear Borders officially opened on 9 July and offers a range of product.
The store stocks a wide selection of accessories including stationery, lunch bags, water bottles and backpacks. It also carries plain uniform, including shirts, trousers, skirts, pinafores and P.E. kit.
There is also a range of Dickies workwear and accessories. This is in addition to tabards and tunics, plus samples customers can try on for placing bulk workwear orders.
The Borders branch is the company’s first store to trial its new and free Click & Collect service for online customers.
Now up and running, the Click & Collect service presents multiple options when checking out online. For instance, customers can now select either home delivery for a small fee or free collection from the Borders store.
Depending on its success, BE Schoolwear will potentially roll the Click & Collect service out to its other stores in the future.
