Row of 3 childrens shoes

The Bobux Seedling is a new environmentally-minded trainer featuring natural textiles that both little feet and the planet will love. The bamboo-knitted shoe is lightweight, breathable, durable and also supports free movement.

Consciously crafted with recycled and naturally-sourced core materials, Seedling helps children leave more environmentally sound footprints while staying comfortable and protected. Naturally insulating, hypoallergenic and UV protectant, bamboo is kind to kids’ feet. The natural and recycled rubber sole, meanwhile, offers durability, flexibility and grip.

The benefits of bamboo

Bamboo is considered ‘carbon negative’ because it releases 30% more oxygen into the atmosphere and absorbs more carbon dioxide than other plants. Because of these features, bamboo greatly decreases the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and cleans the air. Here are just some of the many benefits of using bamboo fabric in shoe design:

  • Super soft – One of the softest fabrics on the planet.
  • Sweat absorbent – Naturally moisture absorbent and quick-drying.
  • Antibacterial – Keeps little feet odour free and feeling fresh.
  • Eco-friendly – Very fast-growing, carbon negative plant – it is in fact the fastest growing plant on the planet.
  • Powerfully insulating – Keeps feet cool in summer and warm in winter.
  • Hypoallergenic – Gentle on sensitive skin.
  • Naturally UV protectant – Protects little feet from harmful sun exposure.
The Seedling trainer features cotton laces, woven eyelets and an open weave knit. It is available in three hues – Indigo, Turmeric and Rosa.

Commenting is Nicola Williamson, Bobux’s lead designer and creator of Seedling. “I am so excited to be releasing our first plant-based, plastic and metal-free shoe. Seedling is hopefully just the beginning of a new category and focus for Bobux. The design challenge was to make our hugely popular and much-loved unisex Grass Court trainer but without using leather, plastics or metals, to ensure it was 100% vegan-friendly and eliminate waste.

She continues; “Knitting the uppers and shoe-laces allows minimal waste as each shoe is knitted to size. I decided to use Bamboo yarn as it is strong yet softer than cotton, breathable, a renewable source and biodegradable. The fibre is also antifungal, antibacterial, hypoallergenic, hydroscopic and a natural deodorizer. The shoelaces highlight the elimination of plastic without compromising the adjustability and comfort that are fundamental to a Bobux shoe.”

Bobux X One Tree Planted

For the launch of Seedling, Bobux is collaborating with One Tree Planted, a non-profit organization focused on global reforestation. With the purchase of every pair of Seedling shoes around the world, one tree will be planted in Indonesia. Indonesia is home to Bobux’s factories and shoe craftspeople. By supporting this regeneration project, Bobux and its customers will help protect critical wildlife habitats and provide sustainable livelihoods to local people.

Bobux Seedling is available from www.bobux.co.uk from 23 March in sizes EU18-33.
