The British Retail Consortium (BRC) has confirmed a new partnership with ShopperTrak. From Monday 16 March, the partnership will see the launch of a new monthly footfall monitor; the BRC-ShopperTrak Footfall Monitor.

ShopperTrak from Sensormatic Solutions is a UK market leader in in-store footfall measurement. Its index delivers insights based on input from more than 1.5 million data collection devices in the retail marketplace and 40 billion shopper visits captured by the ShopperTrak brand each year.

Together with the BRC, ShopperTrak has worked to develop the most representative indicator of UK store performance available.

The Monitor aims to improve the way the BRC measures footfall.

It does this by aggregating entries to stores across thousands of UK locations. Plus, unlike other measures of footfall that only count visits to retail areas, the BRC-ShopperTrak Monitor will track entries into the stores themselves.

Both the BRC and ShopperTrak have worked closely with the BRC’s membership to develop the new measure; ensuring the Monitor provides a true representation of retail footfall, meaning retailers can benefit from greater insights generated from it.

The new footfall monitor will complement a number of other retail health measures. These include the BRC-KPMG Retail Sales Monitor as well as the BRC Retail Employment Monitor.

Commenting is Helen Dickinson OBE, the BRC’s chief executive. “The new partnership with ShopperTrak is an excellent opportunity to provide our members with the most accurate indicator of the health of the high street.

“This venture will allow us to present a more complete picture of the UK retail landscape; including the possibilities and challenges both now and in the future. We look forward to continuing to grow and develop this new product in conjunction with ShopperTrak.”

Also commenting is Ian Muir, general manager UK, MEA & India of ShopperTrak. “Our partnership with BRC means that the retail community will have access to the most accurate data possible to enable them to make better-informed business decisions.

“By acting upon insights from the BRC-ShopperTrak Monitor, retailers can optimise scheduling decisions, merchandising, inventory fulfilment and even loss prevention awareness to help maximise sales opportunities.”
