Following on from the success of David Luke’s Tender Academy workshops last year, the schoolwear supplier conducted a survey to find out how confident its retailers are with helping their schools. The feedback found 87% were confident/slightly confident. Also, that 96% of its retailers would find a simple checklist tool helpful for checking school compliance.

The success of the Tender Workshops will see David Luke broaden the programme in 2022, with a new tool kit available now.

The new David Luke Tender Academy toolkit assists retailers in helping their schools to see if they are compliant with The Education (Guidance about Costs of School Uniforms) Act. As part of the Education Act, schools must help keep costs down and remove unnecessary branded items. Schools will also have to make provisions for second-hand uniforms to be available.

As well as supporting independent retailers through the Tender Academy programme, David Luke’s Re:Uniform campaign launched in 2021 will enable retailers to support schools with second-hand uniform programmes.

The Re:Uniform campaign encouraged families to wear their sustainable school uniform for longer; buy better quality, swap, fix imperfections and take better care of garments. Since the launch, David Luke has expanded this campaign out to schools via local retailers. Most recently, it produced a guide on ways to Re:Uniform to give school uniform a longer life.

In the new guide, David Luke advises the different ways schools and retailers can swap or sell no pre-loved uniform. There is also an introduction to selling on Facebook Marketplace. Video tutorials will be available on David Luke’s YouTube channel this month.

Commenting is Samantha Leigh, David Luke’s Trade Marketing & Sustainability Lead.

“Our motto has always been ‘Durability in mind, ethics at heart’, meaning our products are made to last. Buying durable, long lasting products from a responsible supplier like David Luke makes them perfect for Re:Uniform, giving them a second, or even third life.”
