Young child with educational toys

Edx Education, a leading home learning brand for children age 18 months up to 12 years, has won Silver in the Independent Toy Shop UK Awards 2020 for its Eco-Friendly Junior Rainbow Pebbles. Now in its 13th year, the Independent Toy Awards enjoy unrivalled respect within the industry; with the nation’s independent toy retailers casting the votes.

Commenting on the award win is Heather Welch, international brand manager at Edx Education. “We are delighted to have won this award; particularly as there are many challenges when manufacturing with these types of materials. Our Eco-Friendly Junior Rainbow Pebbles use a natural fibre particular composite (FPC) material. Each has its own unique natural grain.

“This FPC is 100% made from agricultural waste (rice stems and rice husks). FPC has many advantages including the fact that it breaks down in the environment, produces zero pollution with large savings in energy and water usage during the manufacture of the FPC raw material, and is fully recyclable.”

The Rainbow Pebbles range is one of the UK’s bestselling educational toys. It encourages both creativity and STEAM learning.

“We have always been passionate about the learning through play movement,” continues Welch. “Particularly as we originally started out by manufacturing educational toys for schools.

“Learning through play has long been recognised as a highly successful method of teaching in early years education, both in the classroom and at home. Not only is it fun and engaging, but it is also a tactile and visual form of learning to fuel a child’s mental growth by aiding concentration.”

The Rainbow Pebbles range consists of various colours, shapes and sizes. The seemingly simple ‘pebbles’ are a flexible toy that can develop a child’s depth of knowledge through creative play.

By stacking and arranging the 36 tactile pebbles, children can cultivate their foundation skills in design thinking. They also support problem-solving as well as critical assessment. Plus, the pebbles take up very little space and are suitable for a wide range of activities for varying age groups from 18 months.

The entire Edx Education product range aims to support both parents and educators in all aspects of play-based learning. Its new website features a podcast and play blog with tips and tricks for parents and teachers.

“It may be child’s play, but Rainbow Pebbles can have a ripple effect on young imaginations. Thank you for the recognition and support, now let’s play!” concludes Welch.
