Four children stood together wearing summer outfits with fruit prints on them

This season, CWB visited the CIFF Kids trade fair in Copenhagen, Denmark. There was a very upbeat mood at the show and several new international exhibitors, including a strong Spanish presence with the likes of Little Creative Factory, Bobo Choses and Tiny Cottons. Additionally, Bestseller, the Danish mega-company, showed all of its adult and kids’ brands in a large sustainable pavilion. Here we highlight some of our favourite international and Scandinavian brands.

Vauva

Vauva (pictured above), named after the Finnish word for a very small child, is a Hong Kong-based childrenswear brand dedicated to making safe, comfortable and stylish clothing to play, dream and grow. Founded in 2016, and with a strong presence in Hong Kong and China, it is now expanding into overseas markets. The brand has created three main collections: a seasonal collection with different themes for kids and babies; the BBNS – Basic But Not Simple – collection featuring rompers and bodysuits made from organic cotton combined with premium fabric features such as antibacterial, moisture-wicking, and mite-resistant properties; and a collection of renowned collaborations with Moomin and Le Petit Prince. Vauva also collaborates with a Swedish illustrator for its seasonal collections, reinforcing the Scandinavian mood with vibrant colours and repeating patterns. Quality is important to the brand, using GOTS certified organic cotton and durable materials that can withstand the adventures of its little wearers. Highlights of the s/s 25 seasonal collection are the pastel bunny prints for toddlers and girls, as well as the unisex fruit theme featuring colourful watermelons, strawberries and lemons.

Little Creative Factory

An exciting debut at CIFF Kids, Little Creative Factory is the vision of NY resident and Spanish native Cristina Fernandez. Fernandez decided to exhibit this season to further explore the potential of the Scandinavian market after successful showcases in Paris and New York as part of the Pop-Up Loft group of creatives. The theme of the brand’s s/s 25 collection, Carousel Rehearsal, celebrates the spirit of imagination and play, as each child takes centre stage in their very own mystical production. Colours include shimmering gold, vibrant fuchsia, bold blacks and punctuations of red and neutrals. Diverse textures and fabrics, including delicate lace, ethereal tulle, crinkled gold foil, and metallic and natural materials all feature. From playfully voluminous to elegantly structured designs, each garment exudes a unique charm and enchantment with a feeling of fun. The playful incorporation of theatrical motifs are inspired by the grace of diamonds, the fortune of clovers, and the spirit of the big top. “This collection is for all the dreamers and adventurers. We beckon you to revel in the magic of the extraordinary.” We love the collaboration with Emma Mierop of Skippy Cotton, whose black and white illustrations adorn dresses, tops and sweats. A great addition while remaining authentic to Little Creative Factory’s origins.

Rylee & Cru

New to the show and new to Blender Kids Agency, which now represents the brand in Scandinavia, we were delighted to see US brand Rylee + Cru, which was being shown alongside the other brands in the Rylee + Cru collective: Quincy Mae and Noralee. Hailing from San Diego, California, every detail embodies the beauty and spirit of coastal living, with high-quality basics in muted tones and soft materials with timeless appeal being at the core. The s/s 25 collection takes inspiration from memories of summer’s simple joys. Featuring warm hues, playful patterns and breathable fabrics, sizes are 0-3 months to 10-12 years. This season the brand also introduced a new dedicated capsule designed exclusively for teens. As their daughters began to outgrow Rylee + Cru Kids, the brand noticed a gap in the teen market and worked with them to create styles they would love to wear. The capsule blends contemporary trends with Rylee + Cru’s signature style and is available for 10-16 years. The company is keen to expand further in the UK market, with current stockists including Junior Edition, Hop Like A Bunny and The Little Outfitters. Collection highlights include crochet co-ordinates with items across kids, teen and womenswear, as well as the super-size ric-rac trimmed tiered sundress, which is perhaps one of my favourite items of the season.

Molo

It’s always a pleasure to catch up with Molo at all of the trade shows. However, on its home turf in Copenhagen it’s important to include them in this round-up, not only because it is one of the most influential for its eco-credentials, but because it is consistently inspiring in its colourfully creative yet practical designs for baby, boys and girls. As part of the brand’s ongoing commitment to responsible practices, Molo is now certified with the Global Recycled Standard (GRS) for its swimwear collection, and all cotton styles continue to be GOTS-certified organic. For the s/s 25 collection, You Matter, the focus is all about taking action to reinforce the idea that everyone, especially children, holds the power to effect positive change. Longevity and quality are key, celebrated through durable products that can be passed from sibling to sibling and friend to friend to maximise lifespan. Key themes and items for baby include exotic animals, fun fruit and an abundance of blossoms, particularly dandelions. For boys and girls it’s all about the retro biker theme, with checkerboard and flame graphics alongside quirky fruit motifs and eco statements. We love the banana skin statement pieces as well as the unisex styling for oversized silhouettes.

Mini A Ture

Founded in Copenhagen in 2002, Mini a Ture dresses children aged 0-12 years in comfortable and functional outerwear, encouraging and inspiring them to outdoor adventures, regardless of the season and the weather. The collection is a result of more than 20 years of expertise and craftsmanship, using certified organic or recycled materials that are free from any identified harmful chemicals or endocrine disruptors. The brand is proud to be B Corp certified, GRS certified, RWS certified and Oeko-Tex certified. In a digital era where screens tend to dominate children’s lives and keep them sitting still, Mini a Ture inspires a shift towards a more active childhood. Thoughtfully designed and packed with a range of technical features, the Active Wear collection ensures that every adventure is met with comfort, style and the freedom to explore without limitations. Products are designed to be used equally well for everyday life and not just limited to active sports. They are made of the best possible materials, each of which has its own technical function, such as Cold Touch and Air Supply to UV protection, so that they are both comfortable in the summer heat and provide UV40+ protection in the covered areas. The products are certified and made from materials such as recycled nylon and polyester. We love the sophisticated yet child-friendly colour palettes and uniqueness of this collection, which stands out in the kids’ activewear market. Mini A Ture is also exhibiting in Munich in December at the specialist active tradeshow, ISPO.

Wheat

Since its launch in 2002, Wheat has grown into an international brand and is now established in the UK market. Concern for the environment has been part of Wheat’s DNA from the beginning. It works to care for our planet and future generations by using natural and recycled materials, and by processing them under safe and good conditions. It also attaches great importance to the lifespan of the clothes, which is why quality has always been a key concept in the way of thinking about sustainability. To ensure the product’s CO2 footprint is as low as possible, Wheat prioritises natural, organic and recyclable materials, with certification for organic and recycled materials. Known for its muted colours and ditsy traditional Scandinavian florals, Wheat presents a new look for summer, with a relaxed retro vibe for unisex pieces, as well as for girls aged 3-12 years and 0-2 years for baby. Highlights of the s/s 25 range include washed denim in oversized silhouettes, a faded retro “Sunday” placement T-shirt, which is also the name of the collection, vintage patchwork quilting, and ticking stripe sets. We love the nostalgic cherry motif knit sets for baby, too. Wheat also launched its high summer ‘A Day at the Beach’ pre-orders at the show. The comprehensive swim range has lovely attention to detail, with GRS certification and UVA and UVB 40+ protection. There are also beach bags and summer quilts, and new for this season, hooded poncho towels.

Serendipity Organics

Serendipity Organics offers soft and sustainable Danish design made of pure organic cotton and natural wool for extra comfort and easy wear. Founded in 2003 by Sofie Tobiasen, whose love for textiles, creative spirit and a desire to create clothing that was healthier for children to wear and better for the environment, remain at the heart of the brand. Produced in India, the collection is certified GOTS from the cotton fields to the process of spinning, dyeing, weaving, knitting and stitching. Fine alpaca wool and llama wool/silk qualities are carefully selected and knitted by small Bolivian home collectives. The brand covers categories for premature, newborn, babies, children and women, with clothing, bags, accessories and bedding. New for s/s 25 are the summer corduroy items in pastel shades and our favourite embroidered lightweight cotton items in baby blue, reflecting a world of flower meadows. Other highlights are extra wide textured cotton seersucker stripes for a summer-ready beach look, and a beautiful, delicately drawn original print on the lightest of summer cottons.

Angulus Kids

The Danish brand Angulus produces comfortable, high-quality footwear handcrafted at its factory in Portugal. The brand’s story began in a cobbler’s shop in Copenhagen in 1904, where school teacher Willy Madsen rebelled against the pointed shoes of the time and turned the industry upside down by developing new foot-shaped shoes with room for natural movement. Today, Angulus is a proud family-owned company, still deeply devoted to offering comfortable footwear that supports growing feet. The kids’ line offers a timeless collection for children aged 0-14 years, crafted in natural materials with features such as solid heel caps, padded insoles, adjustable fastening and soft, light and flexible soles carved for extra arch support. The s/s 25 collection explores the balance between being nostalgic and grounded. Nature-inspired themes include smudgy green camo prints and cute sunflower and bee micro motifs, in contrast with a mermaid-inspired magical dreamland featuring iridescent seashell shades, whimsical pastel flowers and sparkling glitter. This year Angulus celebrates its 120th anniversary, with a special anniversary capsule collection across adults and kids launching on 10 October 2024. Emphasising the rich history and traditions of the brand, the collection showcases a range of re-envisioned heritage classics and iconic styles drawn from its archive. Crafted in Angulus x Spoor traceable leather, the collection also highlights the brand’s commitment to ethical sourcing and sustainable practices.

Fabelab

Established in 2013, Fabelab – a combination of “fable” and ”laboratory” to reflect its mission to inspire exploration and dreaming – is a Danish design brand that creates beautiful, playful products for children aged 0-5 years. Designed in Denmark and crafted in small factories, mainly in India, its products are made from organic cotton and filled with recycled polyester. Fabelab works with trusted long-term partners with whom it collaborates to ensure products are created under controlled and fair conditions. It carefully chooses every colour, material and shape for quality and aesthetics, to offer multifunctional products at affordable prices. Imaginative worlds where kids can be whoever they dream – a princess, astronaut, knight or butterfly – create lasting memories where fantasy meets reality in a playful universe. We love the quilted dress-up sets, play theatre and muted genderless palette.
