Founder of disability-friendly childrenswear brand Blossom & Best wins Young Innovators Award
Chellie Best, founder of childrenswear brand Blossom & Best, is one of this year’s winners of the Young Innovators Award. The Young Innovators programme is a partnership between Innovate UK and the Prince’s Trust.
A mother of two, Best launched the brand in response to her eldest child currently undergoing diagnosis for autism and subsequent struggles with incontinence. Her daughter’s plight inspired her to design and produce a range of handmade clothing for children with disabilities or medical conditions.
The range includes Magic Pants, which feel and work as everyday pants but with the added protection of absorbency in case accidents occur. As well as helping remove the stigma of incontinence, Magic Pants are reusable, so good for the planet too.
Best was one of 64 young innovators to win an award. Commenting on the accolade she says; “This has been a huge win and I’m so happy to be part of the cohort. They support us with £5,000 and close mentoring for the year. This has opened many doors to grow my business to the next stage.”
Blossom & Best uses organic, GOTS and Oeko-Tex certified fabrics for its clothing.
Plus, the brand offers fun, bright prints as well as plain colours and subtle styles. There is also a wide mixture of fabrics to choose from.
“We have a range of clothing that is adapted to suit all disabilities,” says Best. “We sell peg feed covers, tracheostomy covers and sensory reusable wipes. Also, peg feed friendly clothing, port friendly clothing and sensory friendly clothing.”
Blossom & Best, which is a member of The Childrenswear Association, is now looking to expand. The company is seeking contacts in packaging, warehouse and distribution as well as retail stockists. For further information and queries, please contact chelliescreations18@gmail.com.
