School uniform retailer, Grays Schoolwear, is opening its stores on Sundays for SEN inclusive Back to School shopping sessions for children with disabilities.

To make Back to School shopping less overwhelming for children with disabilities, the retailer will be taking extra care to reduce any unnecessary sensory stimulations.

Store adaptations include dimmed lighting, no music and less staff members. The retailer will also provide one to one appointments, personal shoppers and staff with SENCO training.

“Based on feedback from parents over the years, we decided to hold out-of-hours quiet sessions with extra accommodations for children with disabilities. We’ve had an overwhelmingly positive response to these sessions; we are already planning more events like this in the future.”

Grays Schoolwear’s aim is to do everything it can to cater to the needs of all children. Each child is unique, therefore the service it offers will be appropriate for all needs.

The SEN inclusive Back to School shopping sessions are by appointment only. This is to make sure the stores remain as quiet as possible. It also ensures that the retailer has enough staff to help every customer on a personal level.

The retailer’s Blackburn store event was held on Sunday 28 July. The Clitheroe store event is due to take place on Sunday 4 August. Other dates are available on request.
