hree white clothes hangers by Grohanger being extended

A new British-designed sustainable baby hanger made from recycled material that ‘grows’ into an adult hanger to prevent waste, is now available to clothing retailers.

The sustainable Grohanger enables retailers of babies’, kids’ and adults’ clothes to minimise their carbon footprint when using hangers and is suitable for closed loop re-use programmes. The hangers are also available for all sizes of garment retailers, from small independents to multinational fashion retailers.

Grohangers are made from recycled polypropylene.

Polypropylene is one of the most eco-friendly and versatile plastics available to ensure a long life, especially in retailer hangar reuse systems. The Grohanger has arms that extend from 27cm to 41cm alongside modular clips, unique jaws and an extendable trouser bar. One hanger, therefore, can cover over 80% of most retailers’ needs and 100% of baby/kidswear retailers’ needs.

Grohanger enables smaller retailers to have just one hanger to cover all their needs. For larger retailers, it reduces supply chain costs and carbon footprint created by hanger use. The Grohanger reduces tooling requirements by up to 75%, too. It also takes up over 30% less space when shipped and stored.

For in-store re-hanging and when hanging garments at clothing factories, it ensures the right size and type of hanger is always available. Significant carbon savings are available in comparison to standard hangers and supply chain and management costs are lower as well.

Retailer brand styles can be incorporated into the extendable ‘one hanger fits all’ design.

Commenting is Nick Lewis, owner and inventor of Grohanger. “The new British-designed Grohanger is by far the most sustainable and practical hanger for fashion retailers. Retailers now have the opportunity to drastically rationalise hanger ranges and reduce their carbon footprint.

“Price points are no greater than standard hangers, and it’s available either supplied directly in all major global locations or as part of hanger reuse programmes through established global hanger producers, under licence.

“We have also developed a unique patented wood hanger design,” continues Lewis. “It’s effectively a baby hanger that transforms into an adult hanger so that baby/kids’ wood hangers don’t have to be discarded when they are outgrown. As well as billions of outgrown plastic kids’ hangers making their way to landfill each year, people forget about the outgrown baby and kids’ wood hangers that are also discarded.”
