Steve Oliver, CEO and co-founder of musicMagpie, a leading re-commerce business specialising in refurbished consumer technology, is urging local leaders to attend Stockport’s first One+All Sustainability In Action Summit on 6 October 2021 at The Light Cinema, Stockport.

Highlighting the race to net zero, the Summit – organised by B Corp schoolwear supplier One+All in partnership with Marketing Stockport – will gather business leaders for the region’s first sustainability event of its kind.

“We all need to do our part to help save the planet,” says Oliver. “Getting together as a business community is vital for sharing ideas and insights on what leaders can do to be more sustainable. By addressing key environmental issues and spotlighting solutions, we want business leaders to be inspired to take action.”

As a champion of the circular economy, Oliver is pressing Stockport leaders to unite for this event. The Summit will showcase how organisations can act to tackle the issues the environment is facing.

Oliver will be one of eight leaders from the business community, Stockport Council, Transport for Greater Manchester, and Planet Mark, who will be speaking at the Summit.

Discussing the topic of e-waste, Oliver will highlight how the UK produces one of the highest amounts of e-waste in the world. Also, why recycling e-waste is critical to a sustainable future.

“Our research has found that four in five Brits do not know what e-waste is,” continues Oliver. “And when given the definition of e-waste, nearly a third don’t believe it damages the environment or are unsure; 45% aren’t even aware it impacts climate change.”

To raise awareness of the issue of e-waste, musicMagpie commissioned the sculpture named Mount Recyclemore. Now displayed in Stockport Exchange, the sculpture is made from thousands of elements of electronic waste from old cameras, mobile phones and computers, to recreate the leaders of the G7 countries.

Oliver says, “We wanted to highlight the growing issue of e-waste by using just some of the tonnes of electronic waste the UK produces each year. The sculpture promotes conversation around e-waste and we hope it will spark more sustainable behaviours.”

The One+All Sustainability In Action Summit, which is part of the Planet Mark’s Zero Carbon Tour, is free to attend and runs from 8.30am until 1.30pm on 6 October 2021. Places are limited and can be reserved here through Eventbrite.
