Little Omo is launching at Selfridges London and on Selfridges.com, introducing a collection of inclusive educational toys to the department store. Selfridges will stock Little Omo’s face puzzles that celebrate four illustrated characters, educational flashcards available in three sets – Alphabet, Parts of the Body and Numbers − and also fruit and vegetable wholefood puzzles.

Little Omo is an inclusive educational toy brand that provides learning materials and toys that teach all children about diverse cultural representation through play. Founded by Desriee Asomuyide in 2020, Little Omo is the latest addition through the successful partnership between Selfridges and Untapped Creatives.

Established by Funmi Scott, Untapped Creatives is a platform for British, Black-owned sustainable lifestyle brands. The initiative has already seen 12 brands, from fashion to homeware and beauty, launch in-store and online at Selfridges.

Little Omo’s face puzzles will be available in four different characters

The boys are named Omobamidele and Omowale, while the girl puzzles are named Omodara and Omonike. Each puzzle features skin tones in different shades from light to deep dark and brown, helping children from diverse backgrounds feel represented and included.

The face puzzles offer a fun way for children to develop skills and identify parts of their faces. Each puzzle is also handmade in the UK using FSC wood making them more sustainable. Organic cotton drawstring pouches store and protect the puzzles.

Little Omo’s whole food puzzles contain foods you don’t usually see. A variety of exotic fruits, vegetables and plants help introduce and teach children about different cultural foods.

The flashcards, meanwhile, feature rounded corners to make them safe for children to use. Ethically made in the UK, they also feature FSC-recycled materials. Plus, the ink is 100% eco-friendly, plant-based and manufactured from renewable sources.

Little Omo creates products that help build confidence in black and brown children

The brand believes children from different backgrounds should be able to see themselves in the products they are learning from. Little Omo is also pushing for diversity and inclusive toys to be compulsory within all educational spaces and to feature in every child’s playroom.

“I’m so happy that Little Omo is going to be stocked at Selfridges London and on Selfridges.com,” says Desriee Asomuyide. “I am proud to introduce my inclusive range of products for children of colour to see themselves represented when shopping.

“It is an amazing feeling as a mother and a business owner to see the positive feedback I have received from people about my brand at pop-ups, but it will be so exciting to hear it from people shopping on the high street. Little Omo’s current motto is ‘We are representing children of colour – today, tomorrow and forever,’ and I continue to make every effort to do this.”
