Julie Deane OBE, founder and CEO of The Cambridge Satchel Company, will be one of the headline speakers at this year’s Make it British Live!
Deane will be sharing the inspiring story of her British handmade leather bag brand; including how she set up her own factory and advice to others who want to do the same.
Deane and her mother Freda started the Cambridge Satchel Company at their kitchen table in Cambridge with a budget of only £600. They had one goal – to make enough money to send Deane’s children to a better school.
Twelve years on, The Cambridge Satchel Company sells 10,000 bags a month globally.
Commenting is Kate Hills, CEO of Make it British. “Julie’s practical approach to business and her entrepreneurship make for an interesting and inspiring story. I’m delighted that she will be joining us for the first time this year.
“So many people look to her for inspiration. She launched her brand from scratch and then went on to set up her own factory. Despite having to deal with many challenges along the way, she’s still smiling.”
Deane joins Christopher Nieper OBE, MD of Derbyshire fashion house David Nieper, who will also be speaking at this year’s event.
Make it British Live! is dedicated to showcasing the best of British manufacturers and producers of textiles, clothing and homeware. It takes place on 17-18 March 2020 at the Business Design Centre, London, and includes a two-day conference and trade show.
