The Schoolwear Association’s (SA) Clear and Present Danger fund is starting to gain momentum, with four retailers and six suppliers already making donations.

The SA opened the Clear and Present Danger Fund in order to secure the expertise of lobbying company WA Comms and start a comprehensive strategy in preparation for the general election result.

A number of meetings with WA Comms have already taken place, which are now helping the SA to formulate a specific plan. The aim is to target all of the key people and get the SA’s message across clearly and effectively.

The upcoming weeks are critical to the eventual shape of the statutory uniform guidelines.

A Conservative victory in the general election will still mean that the uniform guidelines will be made statutory. If there is any other result in the election, the SA is likely to have a tougher job to support the market through even more turbulent times.

It is crucial, therefore, that the SA is actively working to ensure the guidelines are sensible and practical; that they support children, their parents and the schools.

However, if the SA is to succeed in getting the best outcome, it needs the support of the whole market. “Whatever your politics, vote for the SA – we’re backing your business,” adds SA chairman, David Burgess.

To date, retailers that have contributed to the fund are Anglia Sports & Schoolwear, Total Uniforms, NextGen and G&S by Valentino. Suppliers that have supported the fund so far are Banner, Trutex, Gymphlex, William Turner, Rowlinson Knitwear and David Luke.
