Two girls wearing cricket clothes by Maiden

Launched this year, Maiden is a new cricket clothing company designed specifically for girls. Created by sisters Honor and Cat Black, aged 16 and 15 respectively, the brand aims to empower, inspire and champion the spirit of female cricketers everywhere.

Highlights from the range include Maiden’s Test Match Trousers made from recycled materials for girls aged 8 to 18 years. Featuring a twill weave, they aren’t see-through and are fleece backed to feel soft against the skin. The trousers also have built-in shorts for an added layer of comfort and protection, adjustable waist ties, side pockets, and back knee breathable mesh panels with rubberised metal trims.

Just like the Test Match Trouser, the Nightwatch Trouser has an elasticated back waistband for optimum fit. Mirroring the Test Match Trouser in all ways except the colour, the navy blue option offers girls an alternative when whites aren’t necessary.

To accommodate growing teenagers and increase wear, the trousers have an adjustable bottom hem to achieve the ideal length without the need for sewing.

The brand’s Pace Pullover offers a slim fit with a ribbed neck, cuffs and hem for comfort, a poly interlock fabric, and benefits from good stretch and recovery. Soft and durable, it allows for easier movement and provides warmth without excess fabric.

The Mid-On Top, meanwhile, is a slim-fitted, short-sleeved top specifically designed to make bowling easy. Extremely lightweight, it has a breathable mesh underarm to keep the wearer dry, cool and comfortable. The flat collar has neat, smart proportions, with a V-shape neckline making it easy to wear with the Maiden Pace pullover.

Commenting on the launch is Honor Black, co-founder of Maiden. “We put a lot of thought and detail into each of the designs and have had really positive feedback from the press and cricketing industry. Girls who have joined the Maiden Mission and purchased the kit love the look and feel.

“We want to champion girls’ cricket; highlight what a fantastic sport it is in instilling confidence in young women and in building a community of girls supporting girls, championing others’ success, and looking and feeling good along with way.”
