Showing at the INDX Toy & Gift show on 14-15 March, Petit Collage combines a modern aesthetic with sustainability criteria to create bold and thoughtful toys, games, gifts and activities. With a focus on designing with the health of children and the planet in mind, it strives to make its products beautiful and fun in equal measure.
Driven by a passion for inspiring a love of play in babies and children, Petit Collage’s products are enjoyed by families the world over. Despite the brand’s growth, it has never lost sight of its founding principles and small company values, and thoughtfully and creatively works towards a more sustainable future.
Brand history
In 2006, Petit Collage founder Lorena Siminovich hand-crafted a little animal collage using recycled materials as a gift for a pregnant friend. Her friend loved it – and Lorena loved making it. This small, considerate gesture was the beginning of Petit Collage, inspiring not only the company name but its sustainability ethos, too.
The Petit Collage brand quickly grew into a successful line of toys, puzzles, games and lifestyle gifts sold all over the world. In 2020, Petit Collage was acquired by Chronicle Books (a fellow San Francisco company) and now boasts a team across California and Bath, England. Whilst no longer a one-woman band, good design remains at the heart of the brand.
Sustainability
Petit Collage believes that the products it makes should be sustainably sourced. It therefore uses FSC wood and paper, and much of its product is packaged using 75% recycled and recyclable materials. Inks are vegetable-based and paints are water-based. Petit Collage is also committed to communicating clear eco claims without greenwashing. And beyond the product itself, the company doesn’t use plastic in transit for most of its products.
The range
Petit Collage designs and produces in four categories from 0 months to 8 years: Baby toys and gifts, using FSC wood, FSC paper and organic cotton with recycled plastic stuffing; Early Years toys, puzzles and musical instruments, with a focus on soft learning through play; Puzzles & Games, including trivia sets and plastic-free classic games like Wallaby at the Window; and Craft & Activities, including colouring books and craft kits.
