A woman and young girl outside laughing wearing Mama Squad and Mini Squad T-shirts by My Little Green Wardrobe

Sustainable children’s clothing store, My Little Green Wardrobe (MLGW), has launched its own label for the first time. Its new Mama & Me range focuses not only on kids’ clothing but also marks the site’s first foray into womenswear. The capsule collection comprises matching women’s and children’s slogan T-shirts and infant baby vests in an array of colours. Sweatshirts and hoodies in several designs are due to follow.

True to the online retailer’s eco-credentials, sustainability criteria has been foremost during the sourcing of the range. All garments are made from organic cotton in India certified to the highest standard. They are then shipped via ocean freight to the UK, where they are printed on-demand and despatched directly from a factory on the Isle of Wight. To ensure quality to match MLGW’s brand ethos, the childrenswear retailer has partnered with Teemill, which has a track record of excellence when it comes to environmental and social responsibility.

Every item is GOTS certified along the entire supply chain.

This means no toxic synthetic chemicals are used and stringent worker conditions are met. Additional care is also taken over water sourcing, with it being cleaned and recirculated in a closed-loop system. Furthermore, all of the factories in India are run entirely on renewable energy. Trees are then planted to help offset any remaining carbon associated with the production of the T-shirts.

As part of its women’s range, MLGW is also introducing a recycled organic cotton T-shirt. The T-shirt comes from a circular system that recovers organic cotton fibres and spins them into new yarns. What’s more, all T-shirts have a QR code on them which, when scanned, provides details of where to send the item at the end of its wearable life so it can be recycled into a new garment.

Commenting is MLGW founder Lucy Todd.

“I’ve spent years learning from the best in the business and wanted to produce a range for women and children that is truly the most sustainably made and ethically sourced. I’m so proud of this first collection and hope others will enjoy wearing our items knowing that they’ve been designed and made with sustainability and circularity in mind.”
