A selection of Not Only Pink and Blue clothing hanging on hangers

As Pantone reveals the two new colours of the year for 2021 – PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray and PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating (yellow) – online marketplace Not Only Pink and Blue welcomes a move towards creating a more gender-neutral coloured world.

A champion for challenging the tradition of dressing girls in pink and boys in blue, Not Only Pink and Blue’s CEO and founder, Clare Willetts, comments; “We’re delighted to see that 2021’s colours of the year are both gender-neutral shades, which seems fitting following this tumultuous year of uncertainty and change.

“We predict that this trend for a more gender-neutral approach is set to continue to grow into 2021 and beyond, as awareness of the negative impacts of gender stereotypes become more well-known. Already in 2020, we’ve seen many high-profile celebrities sharing that they are raising their children without the confines of gender stereotypes. Or, that they themselves were raised that way.”

Online retailer Not Only Pink and Blue offers a world of colour and choice in children’s clothes, books and toys.

The store aims to open up a world of colour and diverse choices for children of all ages; offering clothes in a rainbow of colours, books featuring diverse role models, and toys that feed young imaginations. In the run-up to Christmas 2020, Not Only Pink and Blue is seeing increases in sales of:

  1. Children’s books featuring diverse and representative characters
  2. Dolls for girls and boys
  3. Numerous requests for unicorn and dinosaur decorated clothing for boys and girls

Willetts continues; “I’m a firm believer that children should be free to be children; to decide what they want to be without any of the stereotypes that can limit their aspirations and wellbeing. Not Only Pink and Blue is launching because I think all colours are for all children; all toys are for all children, and all children should see themselves in the books they read. After all, there are 11 colours and over 10 million shades to choose from.”
