shot of two children's legs wearing sandals by Pip & Henry

As part of its commitment to environmentally friendly and sustainable production, children’s fashion and school footwear brand Pip & Henry has launched a shoe recycling service.

The free and easy-to-use recycling service covers all shoes, no matter the size or brand. Customers send their children’s old shoes to the brand along with their name and email address. In return, they receive a voucher for £10 off their next Pip & Henry order.

Pip & Henry responsibly strips the donated shoes and repurposes them for different uses, including playground surfaces and floor fillers.

Brand founder Jeroo Doodhmal comments on her mission to reduce, reuse and recycle.

“Kids typically outgrow shoes every 3-4 months in the early years of their lives,” she says. “And the average child owns 15 pairs of shoes over the course of a year. That’s 80 million pairs of children’s shoes bought in the UK alone.

“Most of these end up in landfills. They decompose slowly and leach harmful chemicals and toxins into the ground and water for thousands of years. This is what drove me to create a brand of children’s shoes that are eco-friendly and can be disposed of responsibly.

“However, as the majority of footwear that ends up in landfill is not made with easily biodegradable materials, we took things a step further and created a shoe recycling service.”
