Girl wearing olive green Reins T shirt with octopus imaage

Reins Clothing’s skate-inspired collection with illustrator Intangible Objects (aka Lydia Hignett) launches this month. The Ollie The Octopus collection sees the use of hemp and recycled materials, interactive elements and female-led initiatives.

Featuring the “charmingly lumpy and joyfully wonky characters” of Intangible Objects, Reins Clothing aims to reinvent the already high standards for eco-friendly kidswear. It also wants to bridge the gap between sustainability and affordability; offering unique designs, interactive elements and an emphasis on emerging cultures surrounding skateboarding, which are proving to be extremely beneficial to the mental health and wellbeing of children.

Released this month, Reins’ Ollie The Octopus collection includes a kid’s T-shirt with Ollie screen printed on the front. There is also an Off White Recycled Adult T, Hemp Denim Skate Jeans, and an Ollie The Octopus hip bag and tote. As always, this is a limited stock release to keep wastage to an absolute minimum; environmentalism is a core value of this female-led kids’ clothing brand.

Reins Clothing consciously supports other independent female-led brands, initiatives and charities.

Aware of the challenges women in the industry face, Reins Clothing aims to pave a way for female designers and collaborators in this regard. The Ollie The Octopus release also provides an insight into the vision for Reins. Hemp is seemingly the future of sustainable fashion, with significantly less water required for growth. And, with no need for harmful chemicals and pesticides, hemp leads the way in terms of sustainable materials.

Commenting on the collaboration is Reins Clothing’s founder and director, Rhi Jones. “This drop is very exciting to us as it’s moving towards creating a community around the brand that acts to be inclusive, supportive and champions the message of sustainability. Alongside this collection, we have made it as one of the finalists in the Drapers Sustainable Fashion Awards; we couldn’t be happier that our work is being recognised.”

A company that continues to close the gap between sustainability and affordability whilst also maintaining its fun and vibrant personality, Reins aims to be accessible for all. In terms of sustainability, all hemp products are made entirely in the UK from sustainable materials. Furthermore, all screen printing is done using non-toxic dye from UK suppliers, meaning low impact on the environment.

Accompanying Reins’ Ollie The Octopus collection will be free, easy to use skateboarding tutorials for beginners. This interactive element will be led by the owner of the Liverpool company, Skate Skool. Taught by passionate members of the skate community, Skate Skool’s participation marks a new chapter for UK kidswear; one that not only aims to build up the environment but also the physical and social skills of its customers.
