Remake receives Fashion Impact Fund grant to amplify garment makers’ voices
Remake, a global advocacy organization fighting for fair pay and climate justice within the clothing industry, has received a grant from the Fashion Impact Fund to further its mission of bringing the voices of garment makers to the forefront. Remake leads a global network of citizens, industry professionals, legislators and labour leaders to win campaigns and pass laws to tackle fashion’s exploitation of workers who are on the frontlines of growing wage theft and climate impacts.
The Fashion Impact Fund provides grants to female-founded non-profit fashion workforce development solutions as a driver for women’s economic inclusion.
The Fund’s multifaceted mission aims to empower women, combat poverty and discrimination, and promote positive change within the fashion industry. The Fashion Impact Fund recognizes Remake’s vital work in advocating for garment workers’ rights, corporate accountability, and sustainability. With this grant, Remake will be able to expand its reach and deepen its impact on an even larger scale.
Since its inception in 2015, Remake has engaged with millions of people globally, serving as a voice of authority in the sustainable fashion movement. Remake educates citizens on the harms of the clothing industry through its ever-growing ambassador and fellowship programs, free in-person events and academic programming.
However, Remake’s education work goes further than the classroom. It also contributes to scholarly research with an annual fashion accountability report and informs the press of the most crucial worker stories. Remake advocacy work includes building global coalitions, winning campaigns and passing laws that protect garment workers.
Commenting is Ayesha Barenblat, CEO of Remake.
“Remake was founded to centre the voices of the women who bring our clothes to life. Our film shorts, campaigns and legislative efforts are worker-led and driven. With the Fashion Impact Fund’s support, we will bring first-hand accounts of fearless women leaders who are on the frontlines of the climate crisis and growing inequity to public consciousness. We hope this work will inspire investors, legislators and everyday citizens to lock arms with fashion’s most essential workers to demand greater corporate accountability.”
Kerry Bannigan, founder and executive director of the Fashion Impact Fund, adds: “Remake’s commitment to amplifying the voices of garment workers resonates deeply with our mission at the Fashion Impact Fund. Their work represents a vital step towards addressing systemic issues within the fashion industry. By supporting Remake, we can advance transformative change and foster a culture of accountability within the sector. This grant reinforces our shared belief in the power of conscious fashion to shape a more equitable and sustainable future.”
With the grant, Remake will be able to continue to support its action-oriented community and education work rooted in the hope of a better future for fashion. For further information on Remake, please click here.
