Green children's wellington boots displayed on a shelf in Margo's Petersfield

Margo’s Petersfield is a new kids’ clothing, footwear and family gifting shop located in the market town of Petersfield, Hampshire. Owners Jasmine Kerr and Barnaby Williams both grew up in Petersfield, with Jasmine working in hospitality and retail management and Barnaby in fishery management.

After travelling for six months around Southeast Asia, the couple realised they wanted a different lifestyle. Although the plan was to save for another life-changing trip, the pandemic struck, and the couple also had the welcomed surprise that they were going to become parents.

Jasmine and Barnaby started Margo’s to allow them the flexibility to manage their own time. They initially started trading last summer, selling sustainable children’s clothing, footwear, toys and books on the weekly market in Petersfield, as well as at local events such as The South Downs Show and Petersfield Festivities.

During this time, they met many local crafters and makers whose products were being kept in storage throughout the week until they were trading at the markets on the weekends. This led to the idea of opening a shop and becoming a small business stockist. When premises became available, the couple snapped it up, with the store opening its doors to customers on 6 February.

Margo’s Petersfield is very much a family business, with the couple’s daughter – Margo – being at the heart of it.

Key developments for the business include a monthly family-friendly market – Margo+Friends – at the Clanfield Community Centre. As a fishing coach, Barnaby is also volunteering with a local fishing project for kids this summer hosted by The Acorn Community Centre.

New brands will be joining the business in autumn, including footwear from the likes of Biomecanics and Petasil. In time, the couple would like to move into bigger premises to allow space to host local workshops with a focus on activities for older kids.
