In 2013, Nichola Radcliffe embarked on a journey that began at a desk in her bedroom, handcrafting cards and wedding stationery. With a small inheritance from her grandad, she invested in a laser engraving machine, which soon took over her parents’ garage. She started selling handmade gifts at local markets, in small shops and at wedding fairs, with every sale and smile fuelling her passion to grow.
In September 2014, she opened a tiny shop in Holmfirth, which allowed her to build a reputation and connect with customers. When her daughter Nellie was born in 2015, the need for a better work-life balance came into play, which led to the opening of Nellie’s Wooden Workshop on Holmfirth’s Hollowgate in June 2018.

Following six successful years there, growing through every challenge – including a worldwide pandemic – a new, bigger space became available, which would allow the business to expand, stock more toys, and create a real home for the brand. Fast forward to 2024, and Radcliffe was in her dream location on Holmfirth’s high street.
The new shop is bigger than ever, offering even more toys and an enhanced personalised shopping experience.

Featuring a Scandi feel and full of pastel colour, it offers wooden toys, party clothes, home décor, and unique personalised gifts and keepsakes – something for every occasion of childhood as well as weddings, Father’s Day and Mother’s Day gifting. Alongside personalised gifts, the store also stocks Little Dutch, Trixie, Bob & Blossom, Claude & Co., Mimi & Lula, Mini & Moi, and Grass & Air.

Nellie’s Keepsake Co. is passionate about community, creating videos to promote the town and getting involved with local activities such as Holmfirth’s folk festival and arts week. This year, Radcliffe organised an Easter egg hunt that was so popular it hit the local news. With almost 50 local businesses taking part, 1,000 wooden eggs were hidden in villages and beauty spots across the Holme Valley and around Holmfirth. Individuals who found an egg could hand it into the named business to receive a prize.
Plans are now underway to do even more for Christmas. In the meantime, Radcliffe is busy growing the Nellie’s brand and bringing smiles to every child and adult who sets foot in her business.
