SMALL-FOLK, situated in Totnes, Devon, has grown from a tiny shop into a thriving hub for children’s fashion and lifestyle products. The business was founded by Anna Liddle in June 2018, inspired by a simple need: her daughter Fearne, then aged two, required new shoes, but there was no local shop offering suitable options.
Liddle’s solution was to open her own boutique, initially specialising in footwear alongside some clothing and accessories. As the business grew, so did its offering, expanding to include books, toys, and more.

In 2020, coinciding with the arrival of Liddle’s second child, the shop moved across the road into much larger premises, allowing for a wider selection of products encompassing children’s clothing, shoes, accessories, toys and womenswear to complement the children’s collections.
SMALL-FOLK’s aesthetic has evolved over time, too. What began as a minimalist space is now filled with an eclectic mix displayed among vintage furniture, including a comfortable sofa frequently occupied by visitors who pop in for a chat or to feed their little ones. The store stocks a broad range of brands, including Bobux, Camper, Vivobarefoot, Disana, Little Cotton Clothes, Apolina, GRIMMS, and Toverlux, among many others.

Looking ahead, Liddle has exciting plans for SMALL-FOLK, including the development of the shop’s own brand products. Additionally, inspired by visits to other independent retailers, she is keen to refresh the in-store central display, ensuring the shop continues to inspire customers with new ideas and thoughtful design.
