Over the last eight years, shoe recycling charity Sal’s Shoes has provided over 3 million pairs of children’s shoes to those in need. Donations have come from the public, retailers and various manufacturers.

The organisation extends its services to children in 56 countries worldwide. However, since the pandemic, it is experiencing a huge increase in demand for its services in the UK. To help meet this demand, the charity has joined forces with several community hubs to provide children’s ‘shoe shops’ at various locations.

Access to these shops is via referral − like food banks. This allows families to shop for the shoes they need without having to pay for the items; helping to preserve dignity in poverty wherever possible, and making the experience feel more enjoyable.

Sal’s Shoes shoe shops are currently available in Salford; Crewe; Borehamwood, Herts; Hackney and Milton Keynes. An additional shoe shop will also be opening in a baby bank in Hackney in six weeks’ time. Funded by The Guinness Partnership, the baby bank will be run by three local charities: Sal’s Shoes, Little Village and also Boiler House Spaces.

Sal’s Shoes is currently working to raise awareness of these shoe shops amongst retailers and manufacturers to help generate donations of new shoes to help stock the shelves. Donations can be end of line stock, seconds, or a charitable donation of stock.
