Female Shop owner in face mask holding award

A children’s shop in Sheffield specialising in ethical and eco-conscious lifestyle products and clothing has been recognised with a national award for its navigation through the first Covid-19 lockdown.

Small Stuff UK, which showcases independent children’s brands and makers, received the award from the Independent Retailers Confederation (IRC) for showing specific innovation to combat the impact of Covid-19.

The IRC is a collective of trade associations that represent approximately 100,000 independent retailers throughout the UK. The loyalty, gifting and promotions app, booost, sponsors this award.

Small Stuff UK’s online store thrived during lockdown.

The children’s shop utilised customer knowledge to deliver the very best service; adding Zoom videos for gift purchasing together with safe local hand delivery within the community.

It also sent out newsletters and found interesting ways to keep young ones entertained. For instance, sending out free colouring packs or early years home schooling advice.

Commenting on the accolade is Small Stuff UK’s owner, Hellen Stirling-Baker.

“It’s absolutely fantastic. The award couldn’t have come at a better time given everything we have had to deal with during Covid. It just drives me more and more to continue what we are doing and push forward with this independent business that I have grown.”

In their comments about Small Stuff UK, the judges highlighted the shop’s use of Zoom for gift purchasing; “a brilliant idea during these difficult times. Definitely something other businesses can implement for continuing sales and reaching out to new customers.”

The judges also recognised the retailer’s use of social platforms to promote local shopping in the area. “This is always a great way to encourage more businesses to spread the word about who they are and where they are,” the judges added.
