Sheni and Teni, a brand of children’s toys and books, has launched a new superhero doll to celebrate female empowerment, kindness, helping others and being present. Also available wholesale, the Thundergirl plushie has brown skin and natural brown hair.
The doll aims to encourage imaginative play and kindness while also positioning it as a superhero capable of achieving anything in the world. The doll’s purple attire features an African print collar as well as a cape with a shield and sword to save the day.
Sheni and Teni was founded in 2018 by Fola Williams. Focusing on diversity and inclusion, Williams wanted to create toys and books that her sons and other children from ethnic backgrounds could relate to. Passionate about diversity and her culture, she launched Sheni and Teni for individuals to access toys that would reflect her background and identity.
“As a Nigerian mum living and raising children in London, I’ve thought hard about how my children will fare in this society and what contribution I can make to make it a better place not just for them, but for other kids as well,” says Williams.
“This is why I started my business, Sheni and Teni, and specifically why I’ve created a black female superhero doll based on the protagonist in my children’s picture book. Thundergirl is the only black female superhero on the market right now, therefore it was an honour to create this and present it to others.”
The doll is made using high-strength stitching techniques in a CPSC-accredited lab. It is also CPSIA, UKCA and CE compliant, making it safe and long-lasting. For wholesale enquiries contact info@sheniandteni.com. Alternatively, click here to visit the brand’s website.
