Schoolwear

Schoolwear retailer and supplier Tru Schoolwear Group, which operates stores in Wythenshawe, Manchester and Accrington, Lancashire, is calling for school uniform shops to be allowed to trade.

The business, which is currently receiving enquiries from key workers seeking uniform for their children who are still attending school, feels limited opening hours should be permitted.

Commenting is Rohit Vij, who manages operations and accounts for the Group’s Accrington store. “The government should allow schoolwear retailers to open, even if it means opening half day.

“We are receiving many emails from parents who are key workers; they want to buy uniform for their child because they are still going to school as normal.

“When I go to supermarkets for my food shopping, I have noticed customers buying uniform for their kids. We know the government has restrictions on clothes, but why are supermarkets still able to sell clothes and school uniforms?

“Having a two-metre gap in a shop is not a hassle unless the shop is small. I hope the government looks into this further and allows schoolwear retailers to open for limited times. For example, from 12pm until 2pm, just for key workers who not only need schoolwear but workwear too.”
