Wood Street Mission, a children’s charity that helps families living on a low income in Manchester and Salford, is hosting a Back-2-School Quiz to help raise funds for its SmartStart school uniform project.
SmartStart ensures that children have the essentials they need for the school year. For instance, non-branded jumpers, sweatshirts, cardigans, skirts, trousers, polo shirts and blouses, all in standard school colours.
Also, sports kit, such as shorts, T-shirts, joggers, trainers and plimsolls. Plus, stationery, including pencil cases, pens, folders, maths sets, calculators and dictionaries. And finally, dressing-up costumes suitable for school events like World Book Day.
Money raised through the school-themed quiz, which is being hosted virtually by comedian Justin Moorhouse, will provide local children with school uniform and kit via SmartStart.
Tickets are available now and cost £10 per person. Participants can join in with colleagues, friends and family and compete for a trophy. The quiz takes place on Thursday 10 September 2020 at 5.30pm.
Commenting is Des Lynch, manager at Wood Street Mission. “Thanks to our SmartStart project, children can start school in a brand-new uniform; helping them to fit in and have the confidence to achieve. It costs us £35 to provide a child with new uniform and kit, which is delivered direct to their front door.
“We have had referrals for over 1,100 families and the demand is continuing. This year is important more than ever to support children from low-income families and help them settle back into school life. We do hope you can help.”
