Strawberries & Cream, a new British luxury baby and girlswear brand for 3-6 months up to 6 years, is launching with a capsule collection this Christmas ahead of the brand’s main launch for SS21.
Strawberries & Cream is the creation of experienced childrenswear designer, Ingrid Lewis. Lewis studied fashion, design, marketing and commercial management. She also worked as a design manager, buying manager and art director for some of the best-known fashion labels.
“I have so many fond memories as a child twirling around in my favourite skirt over and over again, convincing myself I could fly,” says brand founder and designer, Ingrid Lewis. “Our childhoods are such a magical time and so many of these memories are inspired by the clothes we wore. As a mother to a young girl myself, I wanted to recreate these memories for my daughter as she grows up.”
Designed for babies and girls, the brand will feature small, timeless collections.
It uses the finest fabrics made by artisan and specialised weavers. Commenting on the design process Lewis says; “First we imagine a story. From there we choose our prints, create the embroideries – selecting the best organza, silk, cotton, tulle and ribbons – with everything ending at the hands of our local expert seamstresses and craftsmen who use traditional techniques to turn magic into reality in each of our garments. The process of designing and making an exceptional garment is an art form which deserves to be preserved and celebrated.”
Strawberries & Cream is designed to be remembered and to be different.
A true family business, the collections are lovingly created around a kitchen table in a converted garden shed in Hampstead Heath. It isn’t uncommon to see Lewis’ mother helping with the hand-smocking.
Magic is at the heart of the brand, which extends to the name. “Children love to eat strawberries & cream and through our clothes, childhood can be sweet and magical,” explains Lewis. “The threads with which we stitch our garments will be filled with the stories and the adventures that our children will experience when wearing our clothes; living their unforgettable moments and creating their own memories in them.”
The Christmas collection for babies comprises rompers, a dress, bonnet, bloomers as well as a bib and changing mat set.
The vintage-inspired ‘Chips’ romper in baby cord comes in pink and green with lace detail. Available for ages 3-6 months to 18-24 months, it coordinates with the matching Victoria bonnet and Tutu bloomers with cream tulle. The Chips romper also comes in a star print version in cream with contrasting cream lace and a delicate star print throughout. Baby essentials include an elegant white bib, which comes with a matching changing mat.
For toddlers and older girls, the collection includes magical dresses and capes. The baby cord ‘Popcorn’ dress is a signature style for Strawberries & Cream and will be included in every collection in different materials and details. The dress features classic honeycomb embroidery in contrasting tones and hand pleating. It also has an on-trend cotton poplin and lace Victorian collar. The Popcorn dress comes in pink, green and lime in ages 18-24 months to 6 years.
The ‘Stars’ fairy dress is a festive party dress with matt sequins. This dress, featuring layers of cream lace with printed stars, comes in ages 2 to 6 years.
The Fairy dress is a truly show-stopping party dress with silk organza. It features pink matt sequins on the top as well as cream French silk organza and a cotton organza underlay. The Fairy dress comes in pink in sizes 2 to 6 years.
To complete an outfit, the dresses can be accessorised with the Merengue frill cape. It comes in a baby corduroy version featuring metallic lace in pink or green. There is also the Stars version in cream with a delicate star print and golden pink lace. Finally, Golden Dots offers a delicate golden dot print decorated with cream lace.
