Small Business Saturday is once again highlighting 100 small businesses, one a day for 100 days leading up to Small Business Saturday 2021, including eco-friendly kidswear brand Pri Pri.
For the last eight years, the 100 have received exposure on Small Business Saturday’s social media channels and in the local and national press. They also join the Small Business Saturday team in London at receptions in Downing Street, House of Lords and the Treasury Drum with the Chancellor of the Exchequer.
Being celebrated by the Small Biz 100 campaign on 26 October 2021, Pri Pri offers a range of handmade, ethical and sustainable products using material from preloved saris. Amid the collections are baby gifts, including babywear, muslins, and personalised bunting.
The brand’s sustainable childrenswear collection includes handmade girls’ dresses all made from discarded saris. Not only does this make each dress unique but, by investing in upcycled clothing, customers can reduce their carbon footprint.
Pri Pri strives to reduce its carbon footprint in its manufacturing and delivery operations. As well as only using recycled fabric, all its packaging is recyclable too.
The brand is also a partner of the Animedh Charitable Trust, a charity based in India. The goal is to help underprivileged women by arming them with valuable skills, including sewing. The brand sends designs for accessories and the women in the programme create the items using offcuts. Pri Pri then sells the accessories. The women who make the items become qualified and are helped into skilled jobs through Animedh’s programme.
Commenting is brand founder, Priya Velusami. “I design upcycled accessories and kidswear for those that love colour, style and sustainability. All designs use preloved saris destined for landfill and are handmade by a charity in India that helps to upskill and empower underprivileged women with training in tailoring. I love being able to revive beautiful colourful textiles while also helping people and the planet.”
