Insight agency Flamingo partners with Top Drawer to present key retail trends
Global insight consultancy, Flamingo, has unveiled four key retail trends ahead of the A/W19 edition of Top Drawer. The insight draws on Flamingo’s ongoing analysis of the larger cultural shifts that are driving trends more broadly.
These shifts include omniwellness, which is the expansion of wellness beyond physical fitness into a more holistic space. Also, Harmonious systems, which see people in the face of imminent climate collapse seeking products that unite innovation and nature.
Grounded rituals
Flamingo defines this trend as a natural, autumnal, earthy and tactile vibe, which ties in with both nature and well-being. Focus is on the craft of honest materials, simplicity and also uniqueness elevating everyday items. A paired back palette, meanwhile, enhances the quiet rituals of this restorative environment.
Introspection
Soft winter pales and warm neutrals create meditative and conceptual clean palettes grounded in natural materials. A mixture of textures and collections of objects speak to the multiple inputs from our surroundings, dialled down into introspective muted colours and calm tonal blocking.
Modern vestige
Classic shapes receive contemporary looks through juxtapositions of emerging tech with heritage craft; from 3D printing through to etched surfaces. Hard materials are given delicate detailing that speaks to a future archaeology of treasured items. Rich textures and luxe, gleaming metals add sumptuous elements to rough and irregular black surfaces of unearthed pasts.
Soft assembly
Imperfect shapes that are both soft and rounded add an irreverence to a blue-based autumnal palette. The retro-modern feel is both reassuring and playful, with pop brights in smooth finishes and graphic prints.
Visitors to Top Drawer will be able to view interpretations of these trends via leading retailers and lifestyle publications – Selfridges, Oliver Bonas, Heal’s and Sheerluxe – bringing them to life at the show’s Trends Café.
Top Drawer takes place at Olympia London on 8-10 September 2019. Click here for visitor registration and further information.
