Vivobarefoot, the global natural lifestyle brand and certified B Corp has launched Pluma, its first barefoot first-walker for toddlers. Created in collaboration with wellbeing expert and bestselling author Jasmine Hemsley, Pluma allows children to take their first steps with confidence and freedom.

Embodying Vivobarefoot’s commitment to facilitating natural movement from the very first steps, Pluma features Vivobarefoot’s most flexible decoupled kids’ outsole to date. Designed to mimic the way bare feet move and flex naturally when walking or running, the strategically placed cuts offer increased flexibility. Other key features include a heel webbing loop that simplifies the process of pulling the shoe on and off, and a 360-degree knitted sock upper for flexibility.

Being barefoot increases agility and boosts sensory development.

Children’s feet are soft and pliable, making them easily moulded by conventional shoes. As feet continue to develop up until the late teenage years, it is crucial to protect the natural foot shape and allow freedom of movement. Being barefoot, or wearing a light, flexible barefoot shoe, strengthens the muscles in children’s feet and ankles, improving their balance and posture.

Commenting on the partnership is Jasmine Hemsley, a wellbeing expert, three-time bestselling author, and mum to two. “I cherished the early natural movements in both my children. When it came to finding a first shoe for Mahi, my two-year-old daughter, I couldn’t find anything which felt like it was flexible enough to allow her foot to develop naturally while having stability and the strength to be worn outside.

“Vivobarefoot’s Pluma fills this gap and is what Mahi, and soon enough my son Dash will wear, when they aren’t barefoot. I’m hoping this light-as-a-feather shoe allows children taking their first steps to feel freedom of movement without any constriction. The shoe is simply a protective layer that allows the wearer to move as nature intended.”

This collaboration brings together the expertise of Vivobarefoot in natural movement with Jasmine’s passion for wellbeing and nature. Pluma is a testament to our commitment to enhancing the lives of young children through footwear that allows them to connect with the world in a more natural and healthy way.”
